Net remaining is southwest-border encounters minus formal removals — an event count, not unique people still in the country. Repeat crossers are recounted. Most 1990s–2000s apprehensions were immediate turn-backs, not deportations. Got-aways and visa overstays are not in the entry line.

Fiscal years run October–September and are assigned to the president in office for most of that year. FY2026 is through July 2026.

  • Encounters FY2026 YTD. CBP Nationwide Encounters dashboard, Southwest Border Total Apprehensions, Oct 2025–Jul 2026.
  • Removals FY1989–FY2022. DHS Yearbook of Immigration Statistics 2022, Table 39 — Noncitizen Removals, Returns, and Expulsions. Removals are compulsory departures based on an order of removal.
  • Removals FY2023–FY2024. DHS OHSS Immigration Enforcement monthly tables, yearly repatriations (removals).
  • Removals FY2025. ICE ERO year-end removal figures as compiled by TRAC (319,980). ICE-only; DHS-wide removals may be modestly higher.
  • Removals FY2026 YTD. ICE posted 356,389 removals in FY2026 as of late July 2026 (ABC News, 21 Jul 2026).
  • Returns / expulsions. DHS Yearbook Table 39 (returns + Title 42 expulsions) through FY2022; OHSS repatriation totals minus removals for FY2023–FY2024. Not published on the same basis for FY2025–FY2026.
